Biography

Rosemary Moreland is Course Director for the BSc Hons Community Development and Senior Lecturer in Community Development. She has over 20 years’ experience in the field of community education and development.Her radical academic praxis has involved devising an Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) Pathway onto the BSc (Hons) Community Development, to enable experienced community and voluntary activists with few or no qualifications to gain access to this third level qualification. This resulted in the team obtaining a Distinguished Teaching Award in 2008 and in the programme receiving an AONTAS Adult Learner STAR Award in 2016.Rosemary has developed a number of short courses in the community to raise aspirations, build confidence and skills, to access third level education.She played a key role in the PAULO National Training Organisation and contributed significantly to the development of the UK National Occupational Standards in Community Development Work and the All-Ireland Community Development Work Standards. She was instrumental in gaining joint professional accreditation for the BSc Hons Community Development. Rosemary is Editor of The Adult Learner: The Irish Journal of Adult and Community Education. Her research interests include widening access, adult and community education, community development and reflective practice. She has published widely in these areas and has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2006.
